Star Contributor of the Month – Jim Stamper

For the month of July, we’re showcasing Jim Stamper who’s lent his Drupal expertise to help improve the Mifos web presence.

Jim Stamper - Seattle, WA

Each month we honor one of our top volunteer contributors from around the world.  Jim is not our typical contributor, working directly on the Mifos codebase.  He’s been flexing his Drupal and PHP muscle to help us get a solid working community infrastructure in place by project managing the redesign of the payments.mifos.org community site on Drupal.

Jim Stamper – Seattle, WA

Brief Bio (in the words of Jim): I’m a PHP Developer currently working at KCTS Television, Seattle’s public television station and the largest in the Northwest. I’ve been in the web industry for 11 years now, the last four architecting apps and doing Drupal development. I’ve previously worked at CentreSource in Nashville, TN and with my own freelance studio, SouthSide Media.

Relevant Skills/OS Experience: LAMP Stack and Linux Administration.

Discovering Mifos: Through a friend who also did some volunteering for Grameen Foundation.

Jim’s Impact:

Contributions Made to Date: Jim volunteered to “project manage the payments.mifos.org rollout and contribute his development skills as well.”  Since being brought on – we’ve asked Jim for a lot more help than he signed up for and he’s delivered.  Jim has stepped up to assist with System Administration of both the Mifos.com and payments.mifos.org sites.  While only asked to help on the payments.mifos.org site, Jim went above and beyond to resolve some critical bugs blocking the launch of our Mifos.com site.

The soon to be launched payments.mifos.org community site would not be possible without the wise guidance and oversight from Jim.  He’s also added his technical contributions to smooth out the development of the site, picking up the loose ends by fixing outstanding bugs, applying new CSS styling, and developing new features that went beyond the scope of work of the interactive agency who built the site.

Current Projects: Jim is wrapping up the last few outstanding issues and features with the new payments.mifos.org site. Stay tuned for a beta launch the first week of September.

What’s Rewarding about Working on Mifos:

“Helping members of the Mifos community become more connected and moving this great software forward.”

Fun Facts about Jim:

Favorite Open Source Project: Drupal.

Interesting fact about Jim: I’m a pretty good guitar player and made a good bit of money as a working guitarist in college.
